Peyote Ugly

"Peyote Ugly" is a collaborative art project brought to life by a talented group of artists: Violetta P. Jones, Henrik Uldalen, Daniel Martin, Ivo Newport, and Santiago Pani. With diverse backgrounds in the film industry, graphic design, and both traditional and digital art, they offer a unique and expansive perspective to this international initiative. With over a decade of experience showcasing their work in galleries and museums worldwide, the group is dedicated to the power of cross-media collaboration. Their mission is to bridge the digital and physical realms through their art. Each year, they release a new episode, set in a different country, exploring the rich folklore and mythologies of the region. These captivating narratives are transformed into a dynamic series of both physical and digital artworks.

THE AZTEC AWAKENING

The artists created a series of artworks inspired by Mexican folk culture and mythology. They constructed a narrative strongly intertwined with the elements of Aztec beliefs but with a humorous touch. The tongue in cheek storyline depicts the artists in an adventurous saga taking place in the Mexican Jungle where they steal ancient artifacts and as a result they are on the run from the wrath of awakened Aztec Gods.

The artists created a fictional narrative based on Dutch folklore including many characters from old Dutch fairy tales. The story was composed into a contemporary fairy tale that became a full of humour short film where they performed as those characters.

"Valhalla Awakening" is not just about creating stunning artworks; it's about educating and engaging the audience in a unique and compelling way  with a specific focus on Norse mythology in this instalment. The artists accomplish this by crafting captivating fictional narratives that intricately weave them into the myths. These narratives introduce a playful, tongue-in-cheek element to the stories and make the folklore more accessible and relatable to the audience.
